Jos Buttler scored a stunning unbeaten century as Rajasthan Royals (RR) thrashed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by six wickets to register their fourth straight win in IPL 2024.
Chasing 184, RR were off to a poor start as Reece Topley dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal for a two-ball duck in the very first over. However, Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler did not let RCB capitalize on the early breakthrough as they shared a decisive stand of 148 runs for the second wicket.
Mohammed Siraj broke the stand when he dismissed Samson for 69. While RR were firmly in the driver's seat, they did find themselves under a bit of pressure after losing the wickets of Riyan Parag (4) and Dhruv Jurel (2) cheaply in quick succession.
However, Jos Buttler and Shimron Hetmyer ensured that RR did not suffer any further hiccups and shared an unbeaten stand of 25 runs to take their team home in the last over. With only one run remaining, Buttler completed his century in style by hitting a six.
Earlier in the game, Virat Kohli's century propelled RCB to a competitive total of 183/3 in the allotted 20 overs after Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to field first.
Kohli and du Plessis did not let RR make any early inroads in the game with the ball as they shared a huge stand of 125 runs for the first wicket. Yuzvendra Chahal broke the stand in the 14th over when he dismissed du Plessis for 44. Three runs later, Glenn Maxwell (1) departed as well after enduring another poor outing with the bat.
Saurav Chauhan hit a six but did not last long and departed after scoring only 9. However, Virat Kohli stayed till the end and remained unbeaten on 113 runs to guide RCB to a 180-plus total. His knock came off 72 balls and contained 12 fours and four sixes. For RR, Chahal was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 for 34 off his 4 overs.
