India spinner Kuldeep Yadav opened up about how skipper Rohit Sharma helped him revive his career after he was down on confidence. He revealed how the skipper told him to get more energy through the action.
The turnaround of Kuldeep Yadav has been remarkable for the Indian cricket team in all three formats of the game. After the 2019 World Cup, he failed to get a consistent run in the team and his performances too weren’t up to the mark, which saw him getting dropped.
To worsen things more, Kuldeep Yadav then suffered an injury and his place in the team came under scanner. However, the way he made his comeback was something to cherish for everyone and now is the the backbone of the Indian spin bowling lineup in all three formats of the game.
Kuldeep Yadav has been one of the main reasons behind India’s success in all three formats. He played a huge role for the Team in the Asia Cup 2023, which India won, and the ICC World Cup 2023, where he was a lethal weapon for skipper Rohit Sharma and tilted the game in his side’s favor.
Kuldeep Yadav also ushered his class in the Tests as well. In the recently concluded five-match series against England, he was nothing short of exceptional. The leg-spinner picked 19 wickets and helped the team win the series by a margin of 4-1.
Kuldeep Yadav in an interaction with Indian Express, talked about his turnaround and revealed how skipper Rohit Sharma told him to change a few in bowling. While talking about the same, he elaborated:
“He was there at the NCA when I was there rehabbing and then bowling. He would say, ‘When I stand at slip, I feel the batsmen have enough time to play you off the pitch!
“He said I needed to get more energy through the action and that the batsman shouldn’t get the time to play me. If the batter thinks he can get onto the back foot to play me off the pitch, the ball should rush to hit the stumps or the pad.”
Vicky Paaji (Vikram Rathour) made me bat a lot – Kuldeep Yadav credits batting coach for his improvement
Kuldeep Yadav of late has improved a lot with his batting. This was quite evident during the recently concluded Test series against. The leg-spinner batted more than 300 balls in the series and looked in good control.
Kuldeep Yadav while talking about his batting said that team management made him realise his batting skills. He added that batting coach Vikram Rathour worked a lot with him. He added:
“The team management told me I have a lot of batting skills but didn’t put any pressure on me that I had to score runs. If I can contribute to the team in crucial situations in Test cricket, then the game changes, Vicky Paaji (Vikram Rathour)
made me bat a lot.”
Kuldeep Yadav will next be seen in action during the Indian Premier League, set to begin from 22nd March. He will be playing for Delhi Capitals in the tournament.
