Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) did not utilize Glenn Maxwell while defending their 184-ruin target vs Rajasthan Royals in their previous game of IPL 2024. Indian pacer Mohammed Shami lashed out at RCB skipper Faf du Plessis and the team’s mindset after the match. According to Mohammed Shami, Glenn Maxwell bowled well in previous games and the team should have used him during the RR vs RCB clash of IPL 2024.

RCB lost to Rajasthan Royals by 6 wickets as the duo of Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson etched a 148-run stand for the 2nd wicket. Their partnership set the platform for RR’s victory in the match chasing 184. Notably, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis did allot even a single over to Glenn Maxwell despite RCB bowlers failing to demolish RR batters.

Glenn Maxwell has struggled with the bat in IPL 2024 but has delivered a brilliant performance with the ball. The right-arm spinner hunted 2 wickets each in the clash against Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants. Bowling in 3 games, the off-spinner has clinched 4 wickets at a wonderful economy of 7.37 in IPL 2024.

Mohammed Shami slams RCB's mindset while bowling

However, despite Maxwell's heroics with the ball, Faf du Plessis didn't hand him a single over when Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson smacked RCB bowlers all over the park. Later, the RCB opener reckoned that they didn't want to use a right-arm spinner against right-handers.

However, his comments did not go well with Indian pacer Mohammed Shami who criticized RCB's mindset while bowling. Speaking to TOI, Shami said he doesn’t understand why teams cannot use off-spinners against right-handers. He also gave an example of Ravichandran Ashwin for the same.

"I don't get the point that if there is a left-handed batter playing then we will not give the ball to left-arm spinners and if a right-hander is batting then we won't go with the off-spinner”, said the Gujarat Titans pacer.

"I don't know who made such a rule or what kind of mindset is this, Ashwin is also bowling to right-handers. If you look at the record, Maxwell has been the pick of the bowlers for RCB and you pushed the same bowler out of the game", added Shami, who is absent from IPL 2024 due to injury.

Mohammed Shami, who won purple cap last season, also highlighted that Glenn Maxwell has failed to come up with a good show. However, he has been fabulous with his bowling. He also reckoned RCB are losing because of their own mistakes in IPL 2024.

"Haarne ka kaam toh khud kar raho ho. (RCB are losing because of their own mistakes). In the batting, he (Maxwell) has tried to play the unorthodox shots and got out on them but he has been tremendous with the bowling. But hats off to the RCB captain, he took the main bowler out of the game", the right-arm pacer concluded.

Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have lost four games out of five in IPL 2024. With just 1 victory, they have 2 points and take the 9th spot in the points table. The Faf du Plessis and Co. will take on Mumbai Indians in their next game at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, April 11.
