Veteran India off-spinner and former Chennai Super Kings player Ravichandran Ashwin took to X and asked his former franchise to accommodate tickets for his daughters to catch the IPL 2024 opener. CSK will be locking horns with Faf du Plessis’ Royal Challengers Bangalore on the first night of the latest edition here at the MA Chidambaram stadium on March 22nd.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who recently played his 100th Test match in the 5th Test against England, confirmed that there is an outrageous demand for tickets for the opening match 4 days later. He also stated that his two daughters, who are Chennai-based, are eager to see the blockbuster clash between two of the best sides in the league.
Ravichandran Ashwin says there is an unreal demand for IPL opener tickets
Unreal ticket demand for the #CSKvRCB #IPL2024 opener at Chepauk.
My kids want to the see opening ceremony and the game.@ChennaiIPL pls help🥳— Ashwin 🇮🇳 (@ashwinravi99) March 18, 2024
As we all know, Ravichandran Ashwin now plays for the Rajasthan Royals following stints with Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings after his 7-year stay with MS Dhoni’s CSK. There he helped the South Indian outfit claim the IPL titles. Since then, he has reached the finale on two occasions – with Delhi Capitals in 2020 and with his current franchise in 2022, losing both times.
“Unreal ticket demand for the #CSKvRCB #IPL2024 opener at Chepauk. My kids want to the see opening ceremony and the game. @ChennaiIPL pls help,” Ashwin wrote on his latest Tweet.
This year, Ravichandran Ashwin will be taking part in his 16th season of IPL, having made his debut in the tournament in 2009 when the tournament had to be shifted to South Africa due to General Elections. That season Ashwin played only 2 games in which he collected the same amount of wickets.
But from the 2010 season onwards, Ravi Ashwin became a regular starter for MS Dhoni as he played in all but 12 games during CSK’s charge towards their first-ever IPL title by defeating the Mumbai Indians. Then after winning the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 on home soil, Ashwin rocked up the league with his splendid 20-wicket season from 16 matches including the final.
No CSK fan will ever forget the first over he bowled with the new ball in hand during RCB’s unsuccessful attempt to chase down 206 runs to win the title. Ravichandran Ashwin, after bowling 3 dot balls, claimed the wicket of that season’s Orange Cap winner Chris Gayle for a duck, and then in his 2nd over, he cleaned up the stumps of Gayle’s partner Mayank Agarwal for 10.
Ashwin had also caught and bowled Daniel Vettori to finish the season as the 4th highest wicket-taker. Then he remained on the losing side of CSK’s 2012, 2013, and 2015 finals, once against Kolkata Knight Riders and twice against Mumbai Indians.
And since that season, Ravichandran Ashwin hasn’t returned to the Super Kings who won 3 more titles in 2018, 2021, and 2023. He has been playing his trade with the Rajasthan Royals since 2022 and this year he will be hoping to do something special with the Pink and Blue jersey on.
