Star Sports gives a fitting welcome back to Navjot Singh Sidhu
Star Sports took to their official X (formerly Twitter) handle and gave a fitting welcome back to Navjot Singh Sidhu on his return to the commentary box. Sidhu, who is proficient in Punjabi, English, and Hindi, will possibly be heard in all 3 boxes and it will be for the first time in 4-5 years that the former cricketer will be heard commentating in a cricket match.
“A wise man once said, “Hope is the biggest ‘tope’” And this wise man, the great @sherryontopp himself, has joined our Incredible StarCast! 👏 Don’t miss his incredible commentary (and gajab one-liners) in #IPLOnStar – STARTS MAR 22, 6:30 PM onwards, LIVE on Star Sports Network!”
When the IPL began, Navjot Singh Sidhu used to be a part of the expert panel team and used to do commentary with the first-ever broadcasters from the Sony TV network. He used to appear in the vintage “Extra Innings T20 show” along with Sunil Gavaskar and hosts Gaurav Kapoor, Sameer Kochar, and Rochelle Rao.
Those who have been following the IPL since season 1, know that Navjot Singh Sidhu was not just a commentator, he used to be an emotional who used to commentate as if a painter is sprinkling colors on a canvas. His commentary used to be the background music for a vocalist. And now that he is all set to return after so much drama in his life, from switching political parties to going to jail, some fans will be going back in time while some will be hearing him for the first time.
Navjot Singh Sidhu’s witty one-liners and pick-up lines used to be as solid as batting ability against spin bowlers during his playing days. The 60-year-old said goodbye to his professional career after playing 51 Test matches and 136 One Day internationals.
He scored 3202 runs in red-ball cricket at an average of 42.13, including 9 centuries and 15 half-centuries with a best of 201. In One-day cricket, Sidhu scored 4413 runs at 37.08 on average with 6 hundreds and 33 fifties with a best of 134*.
