Kolkata Knight Riders mystery spinner Suyash Sharma was retained ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. The franchise bolstered their bowling attack with the addition of Mitchell Starc and Mujeeb Ur Rahman to their ranks.
However, Suyash being an Indian specialist spinner will continue to be an important cog in the KKR bowling lineup. The KKR pre-season camp ahead of IPL 2024 starts on March 15.
That will see the Indian players including skipper Shreyas Iyer, Rinku Singh, Nitish Rana, Venkatesh Iyer, and Suyash himself hit the ground running.
Cricket further reported that s et of KKR players have already started training under KKR assistant coach Abhishek Nayar who has set up a training camp at the KKR Academy in Mumbai.
The players training there presently are Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Suyash Sharma, Anukul Roy, Vaibhav Arora, Chetan Sakariya, Sakib Hussain and Ramandeep Singh.
Meanwhile, Suyash Sharma in a recent talk show revealed the batter he has found the roughest to bowl to in recent times. He named former KKR batter Shubman Gill as the toughest batter he has bowled to.
Interestingly, Gill played in KKR colours from 2018-2021 in the IPL scoring over 1000 runs for the franchise. He played a big part in KKR making it to the IPL 2021 final but losing out to CSK.

Speaking about impact, Suyash Sharma himself made a big impact on the franchise in his very first season. Kolkata picked him up for 20 lakhs and he made an instant impact picking three wickets in his very first game against RCB.
He picked up 10 wickets from 11 games last season and will come into this season with all his experience of playing domestic cricket throughout the last year.
Suyhas was majorly used as an impact player throughout the last season. He bowled crucial overs in the middle and in the end as well. It will be interesting to see whether he is used in the same way by the management this year as well.
Shreyas Iyer will be back as the KKR skipper after not playing last season with a shoulder injury, He was recently axed from BCCI’s list of centrally contracted players over his displeasure with playing domestic cricket.
He played the first two Test matches against England and then was dropped from the Test side. He then complained about the recurrence of his lower back issues that led him to miss the Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Baroda. He will be turning up now for the semi-final clash against Tamil Nadu on March 2.
KKR have a good domestic batting core with Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer, Rinku Singh, Nitish Rana, and Ramandeep Singh. They also have a good bowling core of Suyash, Varun Chakravarthy, Vaibhav Arora, Anukul Roy, and Harshit Rana. KKR roped in Dusmantha Chameera as the replacement for Gus Atkinson who pulled out from the season.
KKR play three games in the first leg of IPL 2024. They kick off their campaign against SRH in Kolkata on March 23. They next play RCB and DC on March 29 and April 3 respectively in Bengaluru and Vizag.
