Indian captain Rohit Sharma has revealed his plans to continue his cricketing career for the next 2-3 years and has admitted that winning the World Cup as captain is still his prime target.

Rohit had taken the Men in Blue very close to two ICC trophies last year - the World Test Championship in June and the 50-over World Cup on home soil in November.

However, on both occasions, Pat Cummins' Australian team denied the Indian team from quenching their thirst for a first international silverware since 2013's Champions trophy.

Rohit Sharma, who is currently playing for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, has given his team some very positive starts along with fellow opening batsman Ishan Kishan.

This is the first time since the Mumbai Indians' 2013 title-winning season that Rohit is not captaining the team.

The 5-time IPL winning captain has been replaced by all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who after suffering back-to-back three defeats, has gotten back to winning ways.

Mumbai have been victorious against 2 of the worst sides of this season - RCB and Delhi Capitals. It was against DC that MI's winning run began at Wankhede where they had posted this season's 3rd highest target of 235 which the opposing team failed to chase down and handed MI a 29-run victory.

Therein, too, Rohit Sharma was the one who took the responsibility of leading the charge and scoring as many runs as possible from the first six overs.

The way Rohit Sharma was hitting the ball, it started to seem as if Hitman is on for something very big but DC all-rounder Axar Patel bowled a terrific arm ball that went straight into the stumps.

What did Rohit Sharma say about his future?

While speaking to Gaurav Kapur very recently in the famous "Breakfast with Champions" podcast, Rohit Sharma revealed that he is confident about playing some more years of competitive cricket.

By some years, he meant to say that he has 2-3 years of cricket still left in him and that he is still going strong at the age of 36.

He was solely responsible for the flying start that India had got off to during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and he also had a decent performance in the 5-match Test series against England.

In that red-ball series against Ben Stokes' side, it was said that Rohit Sharma would not be able to continue India's unbeaten home Test series winning streak after they lost the 1st Test in Hyderabad.

However, he and his side replied strongly and won all of the remaining 4 Tests to clinch the series by 4-1. In that interview, Rohit also admitted that the 2025 WTC final is on his radar and that he is eager to claim an ICC trophy.

"I am still playing well at this point in time - so I am thinking I am going to continue for a few more years - I really want to win the World Cup, there is a WTC final in 2025, hopefully, India makes it." - Rohit Sharma said via Breakfast with Champions podcast.
