Sameer Rizvi, on Tuesday (March 26), announced his arrival in the Indian Premier League in style by hitting the very first ball he faced for a six.
The highly-rated right-handed batsman made his debut for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL last week during the tournament opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, with CSK winning that game by six wickets, Sameer Rizvi did not get the chance to bat.
His chances of batting in the CSK’s second game of the season looked slim as well as Shivam Dube and Daryl Mitchell were going strong against Gujarat Titans. However, Rashid Khan dismissed Dube for 51 in the 19th over and Sameer Rizvi was sent out to bat by the CSK team management.
Sameer Rizvi enters elite list:
While Sameer Rizvi’s talent is well known, not many were expecting him to go big on the very first ball he faced that too against Rashid Khan, one of the world’s best spinners. However, the 20-year-old showed why he is rated so highly as he hit the first ball he faced in his IPL career for a six.

The right-handed batsman got down on one knee and slog-swept the Afghan superstar for a six over deep backward square leg. In the same over, the Uttar Pradesh youngster hit Rashid for another six. He eventually scored 14 runs and was dismissed by Mohit Sharma in the final over of the innings.
While the CSK batsman faced just six deliveries in his maiden IPL innings, it was enough for him to enter an elite list. He has now become only the ninth player in the history of IPL to hit the first ball of his career for a six. Rob Quiney was the first to achieve the milestone, doing it in 2009.
The first Indian to achieve the incredible milestone is Aniket Choudhary who did it in 2017 before Siddhesh Lad replicated that feat in 2019. Sameer Rizvi became the first player from CSK to achieve the feat and also the youngest to do so.
