Bengal star Shahbaz Ahmed could land in hot water for his social media activity. The spin-bowling allrounder is gearing up to start a new journey in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He started his IPL career with Royal Challengers Bangalore after being bought by the franchise in 2020. In the 2022 mega auction, RCB secured its services once again for Rs 2.4 crores. In four seasons with the Bengaluru-based outfit, he played 39 matches and picked up 14 IPL with best bowling figures of 3/7.
The RCB decided to part ways with Shahbaz Ahmed after IPL 2023 and traded him to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for his existing fee. On the other hand, Mayank Dagar was traded to RCB from SRH. While Shahbaz Ahmed will be keen to impress SRH in his first season with them, he could face the heat from their fans for social media activity. In his Instagram bio, the Bengal star has written ‘RCB > SRH’ and it could lead to severe criticism for him.
Shahbaz Ahmed’s Instagram bio:
Meanwhile, SRH will be desperate to do well in IPL 2024 after performing poorly in recent seasons. They have not managed to progress ahead of the league stage since 2020. The franchise performed extremely well between 2016 and 2020 as they won the IPL once, finished runners-up once, and qualified for the playoffs thrice during this period.
However, they have struggled to do well in the last three seasons. In 2021 and 2022, they finished at the eighth spot before finishing at the tenth spot in IPL 2023. The Hyderabad-based outfit changed their captain for the 2023 season but it did not have the desired impact as they finished with the wooden spoon.
As far as RCB is concerned, they are still waiting for their first IPL title. The Bengaluru-based outfit has performed well in recent seasons but has failed to go all the way. They qualified for the playoffs thrice in a row from 2020 to 2022 but could not make it past the playoff stage. Last year, they finished in the sixth spot and will be looking to improve their performance in IPL 2024.
