Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan was seen giving a standing ovation to Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant last night at the ACA-VDCA stadium in Vishakhapatnam. SRK was also seen clapping for the left-hand batter, who was playing just his 4th competitive match since returning from the career-threatening car accident he suffered in December 2022. The video of SRK clapping for Pant is now going viral all over social media platforms.
Even if Shah Rukh Khan had high praise for him, Rishabh Pant could not escape the fact that his Delhi Capitals team had put up their worst performance in the league till now. DC not only conceded IPL history's 2nd highest total in front of lethal KKR batters, but were also fined for maintaining a slow over rate for the second game in a row. The first time DC went against this IPL code of conduct ruling was during their previous home game against Chennai Super Kings where they had registered their season's first victory by 21-runs.
As a result, the IPL authorities have fined INR 24 Lakhs to Rishabh Pant after the 12 Lakhs sanction he received for the slow over rate against CSK on 31st March. Other DC players including their Impact player last night Abhishek Porel, were also fined 6 Lakhs or 25% of their match fees for the same reason. If things do not improve and DC are found violating the rule once again then Pant will be handed with a 1-match ban. The Ricky Ponting-led DC coaching staff will not just have to work behind the scenes to help the team improve their on-field performance but also take care of this rising slow over rate problem.
Shah Rukh Khan rises at his feet and claps for Rishabh Pant's famous pickup shot
In response to KKR's target of 273, the Delhi Capitals had got off to a poor start as the top-order of Prithvi Shaw (10), David Warner (18), Mitchell Marsh (0) and Abhishek Porel (0) shared just 28 runs between them. It was upto middle-order batters Tristan Stubbs and Rishabh Pant to steady Delhi's ship and the duo responded with an impressive partnership of 93-runs.
Before Rishabh Pant's innings had come to an end, the left-hand batter was seen playing his favorite trademark shots. One of them was the no-look flick over fine-leg during an over bowled by Venkatesh Iyer. The KKR all-rounder had bowled an on the slot delivery on Pant's leg which was only going towards the stands. That shot intrigued Shah Rukh Khan to stand up on his feet and clap for the cricketer, who is coming back after a very long time. After the match, SRK was also seen greeting Pant with both hands and fans are just loving it.
DC to face Mumbai Indians up next
Meanwhile, after suffering their 3rd loss of the season by 106-runs against KKR, the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals will now travel to the Wankhede stadium to take Mumbai Indians on April 7. The match will be an afternoon fixture which will start from 3:30 PM onwards.
