Young Indian all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer has said that he has worked a lot on adapting to whatever situation he gets into during the high-profile games.

Head Coach Rahul Dravid and T20I captain Rohit Sharma have won their first assignment as full-time coach and captain in a dominating manner. India defeated New Zealand 3-0 in the home T20I series, and in all three games, India delivered a complete all-round performance. Also, India were able to find many positives from the series.

Meanwhile, Venkatesh Iyer didn’t get the opportunity to bowl in the first two games, and he came out to bat when only a few overs were left. However, in the third game, things were different as he came out to bat in the 12th over and was able to score 20 runs. Meanwhile, he was given the opportunity to bowl 3 overs, and he gave away only 12 runs and was able to bag 1 wicket.

After India’s dominating 73 runs victory over New Zealand at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, Iyer spoke to broadcasters and said that one needs to be very flexible with batting position in the team. He said:

 “I have always maintained that as a professional cricketer, you got to be really flexible as to where you want to bat.”

Iyer highlighted that a middle-order batter sometimes might have to bat in the powerplay when a team loses early wickets. He stated:

There might be occasions where even though you are going to play in the middle-order, you might get to bat within the powerplay. That’s something I have really worked on – adapting to whatever situation I am going to play. I am going to look to better that.”

Venkatesh Iyer expressed his happiness on finally getting the opportunity to bowl. Also, he said that playing for India and winning the games is a special feeling. He said:

That’s what I am in the team for – batting and bowling. It was good to get a bowl finally. Everyone aspires to play for the country. If the team wins and that too comprehensively, it’s a special feeling. I hope that this continues for a prolonged period of time.”
