India and New Zealand will be taking on each other in a two-match test series starting from tomorrow and it is expected to be a much competitive series after the whitewash in the T20I series. Kane Williamson was rested for the T20I series and he will be back as the skipper for the first test while the test regulars have returned for the Kiwis as well.
Trent Boult and Colin De Grandhomme are the only players to be rested from New Zealand while Devon Conway is out with an injury. As far as India is concerned, Virat Kohli will be back for the second Test as captain, while Rohit Sharma, Bumrah and Shami are rested. Ajinkya Rahane:
Ajinkya Rahane was one of the top run-scorers for India in the previous New Zealand tour of India with 347 runs to his name. It was Rahane’s only series against New Zealand in India and the upcoming home series will be his second series against New Zealand.
His highest score of 188 in tests came back in 2016 in the home series against New Zealand and he will be aiming to break the record in the upcoming series. His personal form has been under question and the captaincy might just be a big boost to him.
Ross Taylor:
Ross Taylor is one of the best longer format players going around and he had a big impact in the World Test Championship win for New Zealand. His immense experience in the format will always be helpful and he is fourth in the list of most runs among active players against India in India.
Taylor has been part of New Zealand for more than a decade and hence, he has played more test in India than any other Kiwi in the upcoming series. His tally of 382 runs is excellent considering that the Indian conditions is very tough for batters.
Kane Williamson:
Kane Williamson is one among the fab five that has been statured and he will be eyeing for a big return after the T20 World cup 2021 loss in the final. He is a fabulous player of spin and he is going to be the big wicket for India in the series.
Williamson has aggregated 461 runs so far in India against India and it is the third most among the active players. He will be key to success for the Kiwis again and India will be aware of the big threat he can bat long hours.
Virat Kohli:
Virat Kohli turned out to be the top run-scorer in previous India vs New Zealand test series in India. He scored a double century in the series as well and has an overall aggregate of 521 runs in India vs New Zealand tests in India.
Virat is the second most run-scorer in India vs New Zealand tests in India and he will be available for only the second test. He is a run machine and will be looking to stay in some good rhythm ahead of the South Africa series coming up.
Cheteshwar Pujara:
Cheteshwar Pujara is known for playing the long innings and he relished the home conditions generally. His overall numbers in the last two years have come down considerably and this will be an opportunity to correct his stats.
Pujara has an aggregate of 589 runs which is the most among active players in the India vs New Zealand series in India. The right-hander is going to be a vital cog at number three for India and he has shown signs of getting back his old form.
