India will be hosting the Blackcaps New Zealand for a three-match T20 international series at home straight after the T20I World cup and this will be the belter of a series. India lost to New Zealand recently in the T20I world cup campaign and they have scores to settle down in the T20I series.

This series will also be the first assignment for Rahul Dravid as the head coach of Indian cricket and it will be interesting to see how he goes about his business. There have already been signs that the seniors Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are likely to be rested for the series. It is time to look at the predicted India squad for the T20I series against New Zealand.

India vs New Zealand 2021: India Squad For T20I Series (Predicted)

KL Rahul (C):

KL Rahul has been looked at as a future captain for India and with the likes of both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli being rested, the onus will be on Rahul to lead the side to victory. Rahul has captained India in the past and he has done really well in T20Is as a batsman as well. He should be the top pick for the New Zealand home series.

Rishabh Pant (WK):

Rishabh Pant despite his workload in all the formats is likely to play the three T20 internationals against New Zealand as he is relatively young. The left-hander has been in good form and he is one of the contenders for the captaincy in the future as well. Pant will be an automatic pick in the playing XI for India and he can be bat anywhere in the middle order.

Ruturaj Gaikwad:

Ruturaj Gaikwad was one of the standout batsmen in the IPL 2021 as he finished as the top run-scorer in the tournament and is strongly making a case for himself on the Indian T20I side. The Maharashtra batsman is a consistent player and he should be rewarded for his IPL numbers this year. The right-hander has already made his debut for India in the Sri Lanka T20I series.

Suryakumar Yadav:

Suryakumar Yadav has been playing a vital role for India in the middle order and he is set to continue his good run as well. He has been slightly inconsistent in the last few games for India but will definitely make the squad given his talent and his ability to play some extraordinary shots. He is set to make the playing XI in all the T20Is against New Zealand.

Hardik Pandya:

Hardik Pandya will have to play the all-rounder role in the side and India will be looking at him to improve his bowling ahead of the next T20 World cup 2021. He can be a match-winner for India in the limited-overs format and he becomes an automatic option in the limited-overs format as he hasn’t been playing test cricket for a while now.

Ishan Kishan:

Ishan Kishan has been one of the names that will be seen as a future and his potential with the bat is yet to be unleashed in international cricket. He did start off with a half-century on his T20I debut but had faded after that. He is currently on the bench as part of the Indian T20 World cup squad and will get a longer run in the series against New Zealand at the top of the order.

Shreyas Iyer:

Shreyas Iyer has been in the reserves for the T20 World cup 2021 and he is one of the unlucky players to have been missing the international campaign. He picked up an injury at the wrong time and had to wait for six months till he made a comeback recently in the IPL 2021 UAE phase. He deserves to be in the Indian squad for the T20I series against New Zealand.

Axar Patel:

Axar Patel has been seen as the replacement for Ravindra Jadeja in the side as the left-hander has been playing all the formats consistently. He is likely to get a rest and Axar is someone who can do the job consistent with the ball. He does off a little bit with the bat down the order and his economical bowling will be needed in the series against New Zealand.

Shardul Thakur:

Shardul Thakur hasn’t been playing for India constantly in the T20 World cup 2021 and hence, he is likely to get more experience in international T20Is by being selected for the upcoming T20I series. Shardul can offer a lot with the bat and ball and he is going to be a valuable addition for India in all formats.

Deepak Chahar:

Deepak Chahar is an option that needs to be groomed as Bhuvneshwar Kumar hasn’t been taking wickets regularly. Chahar has been very consistent for India in the limited opportunities he has got for India and he can swing the new ball both ways. He has been bowling well in the death overs for CSK and is an excellent number eight for India.

Yuzvendra Chahal:

Yuzvendra Chahal is one of the unluckiest names to have missed out from the T20 World cup 2021 and India did miss him badly with the bowlers not being able to pick up wickets in the middle overs. His good form in the second phase of IPL 2021 is likely to get him a place in the squad for the New Zealand series.

Mohammed Siraj:

Mohammed Siraj hasn’t played many T20 internationals for India and he is someone who can be very economical with the new ball in the powerplay. He also has been fantastic at the death overs for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2021 UAE phase and he should get a place in the India squad for the New Zealand series.

Harshal Patel:

Harshal Patel has been in and out of the side in IPL all these years and he turned to be a superstar this season for the Royal Challengers Bangalore picking up 32 wickets in 15 games. He finished as the man of the tournament and equalled the record for the most number of wickets in an IPL season. He should definitely be given a chance in the India squad for the New Zealand series.

Varun Chakravarthy:

Varun Chakravarthy is likely to be part of India’s squad for the New Zealand series as well to get a lot more experience in the international circuit. He has been bowling some very good economical bowlers but has been lacking the wicket-taking abilities which we have used to see him in IPL. He will be eager to have a good series against New Zealand.

Rahul Chahar:

Rahul Chahar has been on the bench in the T20 World cup 2021 Indian squad and he doesn’t look like getting a chance in the remaining games. However, his international form has been good and he is likely to retain his place in the Indian squad for the New Zealand series. The leg spinner has got wicket-taking skills and will be a great addition to the New Zealand series.
