IND vs NZ 2021: Ravichandran Ashwin Doesn't Get Enough Credit - Craig McMillan
Former New Zealand cricketer Craig McMillan pointed out that Ravichandran Ashwin is one of India’s best all-rounders but he doesn’t get enough credit for his performances and contribution.
Ashwin recently went past Harbhajan Singh to become the third-highest wicket-taker for India in Tests. He crossed Harbhajan’s tally of 417 wickets during the first Test against New Zealand in Kanpur. Speaking about his record, McMillan said:
“I think perhaps that R Ashwin doesn’t get enough credit. He is not only a great spinner but an all-rounder because he has a number of Test hundreds as well. And most of it have come – when you think of the one against England earlier this year – came at an important time in Chennai when India were under the pump, behind in the game. Ashwin scored a hundred and turns the game and takes wickets,” McMillan said on Cricket.com.
Ravi Ashwin should be considered one of India’s very good all-rounders – Craig McMillan
Craig McMillan also asserted that Kapil Dev is at the top of the tree for all-rounders but following him closely is none other than Ashwin. Although Ashwin’s batting numbers aren’t the same as Kapil’s, he has certainly improved his batting in the longest format.
“We always talk about the great Indian all-rounders, and Kapil Dev is right at the top of the tree, but I firmly think that after him, with the numbers he is achieving, Ravi Ashwin should be considered one of India’s very good allrounder,” McMillan added.
The second Test between India and New Zealand begins on December 3 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
