New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson became the fastest Kiwi bowler to 50 Test wickets when he castled India opener Shubman Gill on Saturday in Kanpur.
With India already having a healthy first-innings lead, the onus was on Kyle Jamieson to give his side an early breakthrough. And he did it in splendid fashion with his first ball of the second innings.
Kyle Jamieson curved the ball away and hit it on short of length just outside off. Gill hung himself back expecting the delivery to move away. However, the ball seamed back in sharply off the surface, catching the batsman planted at the crease, and snuck between the pad-bat gap to hit the top of the stumps.

Kyle Jamieson, who had also bowled Gill in the first innings, was elated with the dismissal. So were his teammates.
Axar Patel’s five-fer sinks New Zealand
It took 66 overs for India to make their first breakthrough as R Ashwin dismissed Will Young – a low edge taken really well by Bharat – for 89 breaking the 151-run opening stand. 19 overs later, Umesh Yadav had Kane Williamson trapped lbw.
After then, Axar Patel rolled over the Kiwis. He had veteran batsman Ross Taylor edging to KS Bharat before Henry Nicholls was given out lbw after missing a sweep. Latham was the fifth wicket to fall, missing his century by just 5 runs, stumped by KS Bharat off Patel. Ravindra Jadeja bowled debutant Rachin Ravindra for India’s sixth wicket.

Patel then cleaned up both Tom Blundell and Tim Southee to complete his five-wicket haul. Ashwin bagged the last two wickets, of Jamieson and Somerville, as India gain a 49-run lead. Kyle Jamieson has given the Kiwis some positive to take at the end of the day with Shubman Gill’s wicket.
