At the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi, he was taken by surprise by one of the fans. During New Zealand’s innings, a man ran through the security guards and went straight towards Rohit Sharma, who was fielding inside the 30-yard circle.

The devotee of the opener then laid down on the ground, trying to touch the feet of the T20I skipper. Rohit Sharma had a laugh about it before he moved away to his fielding position.

The man stood up quickly to return to the crowd, and fizzed past a couple of security people who came to catch him. However, the boundary guards then managed to detain him. The video of the incident has gone viral.

Bowlers showed great application and temperament to restrict them: Rohit Sharma

After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, India and Rohit Sharma were put in trouble by the Kiwi opening pair of Martin Guptill and Daryl Mitchell as they attacked from the first over, smashing 48 runs in 4.1 overs before Guptill was dismissed.

Indian bowlers came storming in the middle-overs keeping a tight leash on the other batters before Glenn Phillips’ 34-run knock off 21 balls took the total to 153.

The final total could have been much more. But Rohit Sharma asserted that he had the faith in his bowlers and lauded them for their effort in batting conditions.

“Great effort from the entire unit. Wasn’t the easiest of conditions but the way we applied ourselves was amazing. We know their quality of batting, they played some good shots to start with. But I kept telling the boys that it is all about one wicket. But we showed great application and temperament to restrict them. The quality of the bench has been amazing. They have been performing consistently whenever they get the chance. It is important for me to give them the freedom,” the skipper said at the post-match presentation.

With the series in the pocked, India are likely to give chances to the benched players and make changes for the third T20I, scheduled for Sunday in Kolkata.
