“Hard Work Pays Off” – Twitter Reacts To Prithvi Shaw's Inclusion In T20I Squad vs New Zealand But Exclusion From Test Squad vs Australia

The 23-year-old opening batsman Prithvi Shaw, who plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket and Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has finally received his India recall for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. However, despite his recent Ranji Trophy exploits, he has failed to make the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.

The 23-year-old explosive batter, who smashed a century on his Test debut in 2018, last played Test cricket in December 2020 against Australia in Adelaide. His last ODI game came against Sri Lanka in July 2021 and his sole T20I game came on the same Sri Lanka tour.

On Friday, January 13, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squads for the New Zealand white-ball series and Australia red-ball series. After being constantly ignored, Prithvi Shaw finally received his recall for the T20I series against New Zealand, which will be played on January 27, 29 and February 1 in Ranchi, Lucknow and Ahmedabad respectively.

Prithvi Shaw has been a consistent performer in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and he has the ability to provide his side with flying starts in the match, which India lack at the moment. Shaw’s selection for the New Zealand T20Is makes him the 4th opening batsman in the squad after Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill opened for the side in the recently concluded three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, but both of them failed to perform consistently. Prithvi Shaw may get the opportunity to play in the New Zealand T20Is.

Also, Prithvi Shaw recently registered a record-setting triple century in the Elite Group B match against Assam at the Amingaon Cricket Ground in Guwahati. He scored tremendous 379 runs off 383 balls, including 49 fours and 4 sixes. He batted with a strike rate of 98.95, before being cleaned up by Riyan Parag in the 126th over. Shaw’s 379 became the second-highest first-class score by an Indian, he is only behind Bhausaheb Nimbalkar’s 443*.
