Sanjay Manjrekar, a former Indian cricketer, thinks Rohit Sharma would soon reach the century mark because he hasn’t shown any symptoms of struggling thus far. The 57-year-old doesn’t mind, though, if India often scores 350 or more runs without the Indian skipper collecting hundreds.

Rohit Sharma last reached three figures in ODIs against Australia in January 2020, while his last international hundred came in the Oval Test match against England in September.

Sanjay Manjrekar said on Star Sports that despite being in fantastic rhythm, massive hundreds have recently eluded Rohit but he couldn’t explain why. Nevertheless, he thinks the achievement is not that far off.

“I’m not sure why the huge scores aren’t coming. There are no evident signals that he is not batting well. We saw with Virat Kohli that he was not in the kind of form that we had been accustomed to over the years. Rohit Sharma appears to be hitting the ball brilliantly, going to 30-the 40s and 70-the 80s in the series against Sri Lanka. But hundreds of people are eluding him, “Manjrekar explained.

“I don’t mind his not getting hundreds as long as India scores 350 or higher. “A hundred might just be around the corner because there are no clear signs that he is out of shape or struggling, “ Sanjay Manjrekar added.

“I don’t see anything wrong with the way he’s hitting the ball”: Sanjay Manjrekar

Sanjay Manjrekar, a veteran from India, too noticed how exactly the right-decision-making handers was outside off-stump before a skier to mid-on sealed his exit.

“I don’t see anything wrong with the way he strikes the ball. He was leaving a lot of balls outside the off-stump today, which made me assume he’s set on achieving the high score. Then there was the wicket. Inside the circle were mid-on and mid-off. So it’s a great temptation for someone like Rohit to attempt to play that shot, “Sanjay Manjrekar said.

“The team management won’t be too concerned as long as India gets high scores. However, you want all of your batters to generate huge scores,” Sanjay Manjrekar added.
