New Zealand Cricket Team would be crestfallen after losing the 1st ODI against India at Hyderabad. The Black Caps lost the match by mere 12 runs where they gave the Men in Blue a scare. New Zealand would rue the fact that one of their top-order batters needed to lay a foundation that hurt them.

New Zealand batters looked a bit scratchy in the power-play overs where they scored 42 runs for the loss of 1 wicket. It won’t be wrong to say that the batters were in two minds about whether to attack. Michael Bracewell almost take the team over the finish line single-handedly when he struck 140 runs in 78 balls where he struck 12 fours and 10 sixes.

Skipper Tom Latham needs to bat a bit more responsibly. The left-handed batter scored 24 runs in 46 balls where he struck 3 fours. Latham needs to bat at the No.4 position as he is someone who could provide stability to the innings in the middle overs in the absence of Kane Williamson.

New Zealand needs to bring their ‘A’ game against India in the 2nd ODI at Raipur on 21st January. (Sunday). The visitors would be hoping that Ish Sodhi is available for selection as the leg spinner had a niggle which ruled him out of the 1st ODI.

Disappointing we couldn’t get across the line- Tom Latham

During post match presentation, Tom Latham was asked about Michael Bracewell and team’s performance. “It was an amazing innings (from Bracewell). From 131/6, to come and play an innings like that, for him to put our team in a situation to win the game, it’s outstanding. Obviously disappointing we couldn’t get across the line but it was special. When you’re chasing and coming at a pressure situation, to give us a chance to win that game was special.” said Tom Latham.

India used a lot more cutters into the wicket- Tom Latham

“I think it probably gripped a bit more under lights, India used a lot more cutters into the wicket and it worked. Bracewell batted well and his partnership with Santner was very good to see.” he added.
