Sunil Gavaskar, a former captain of the Indian cricket team, criticized Virat Kohli after the right-hander was out for a cheap run by Mitchell Santner in the opening ODI match between India and New Zealand on Wednesday in Hyderabad.

In the opening ODI against New Zealand, Virat Kohli was dismissed for 8 runs.

At the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad, team India defeated New Zealand by 12 runs thanks to huge innings from Shubman Gill and a four-wicket haul by Mohammed Siraj. After deciding to bat first, Team India totalled 349/8 in 50 overs thanks to Shubman Gill’s 208 and first double century.

After that, New Zealand got off to a terrible start by losing quick wickets, but Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Santner (57), who opened up a massive partnership, helped the visitors get back into the game.

On the other hand, Mohammed Siraj struck twice, removed Santner and Henry Shipley in the span of one over, and increased the pressure on New Zealand. Later, Bracewell led the charge and scored 140 runs, but Shardul Thakur eventually got rid of him in the final over, giving the hosts a 12-run victory.

“He’s played inside the line, therefore allowing the ball to turn just that little bit to go past the outside edge. He has played back to a ball that he should have played forward to. It wasn’t a short ball. It just turned a little bit, and it went past the outside edge of a batter who is in tremendous form,” Sunil Gavaskar said.

With this win, India takes a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
