In the third ODI against New Zealand on Tuesday in Indore, Gill and Rohit put together an impressive 212-run partnership for the first wicket in just 27 overs (January 24). Both players reached the hundred mark and displayed utterly harsh strokeplay.

Here is what Shubman Gill had to say about an unusual talk he had with Rohit in a video addressed to head coach Rahul Dravid that BCCI disclosed:

“I feel really lucky to be able to bat with them and pick their brains. Little stuff like tonight, when Rohit Bhai was batting on 70-odd, he informed me that Daryl Mitchell could get him out, but he will still go after him. This is the mindset of great players, and it’s what I get from batting with Virat and Rohit.”

Shubman Gill agreed that sharing the dressing room was a dream come true:

To share a dressing room with legends like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, as Shubman Gill acknowledged, was a dream come true for him. He also discussed how he used to like watching India’s trips to Australia, where he watched both Rohit and Virat amass hundreds of runs.

“These are the players I grew up respecting and watching. I used to watch India’s tours to Australia and wonder how they score hundreds after hundreds of runs and keep performing for so long,” Shubman Gill said.

Rohit and Virat, who have been India’s top match-winners over the previous ten years, would be eager to teach Gill the virtues of being ultra-consistent. With 1254 runs in 21 games, four centuries, and an astounding average of 73.76, the young player has had an outstanding start to his ODI career.
