IND vs NZ: Shreyas Iyer Ruled Out Of New Zealand ODI Series

Indian Cricket Team is all set to play the 3-Match ODI Series starting from 18th January (Wednesday). This ODI Series is not a part of the World Super League but with World Cup 2023 around the corner, both teams would be keen to find an ideal combination.

New Zealand is coming back off an ODI series triumph against Pakistan. It was a collective effort from the black caps where they showed great fighting spirit. The Kiwis would be well aware of the fact that they have to bring their ‘A’ game as beating India won’t be an easy task.

Shreyas Iyer Injured

Shreyas Iyer has sustained a back injury and won’t be available for New Zealand ODIs. The All India Chairman Selection Panel has named Rajat Patidar as his replacement. It would be interesting to see whether Rajat Patidar gets a game as Suryakumar Yadav is already waiting in the wings.

Huge Blow For India

Shreyas Iyer over the past year has been the backbone of the Indian batting lineup. The right-handed batter has got a wide range of shots and at the same time, has the knack of playing the waiting game which is priceless in modern cricket.  It would be interesting to see whether the batter is available for the T20I leg and most importantly for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.

The Men in Blue would be eyeing revenge for their recent defeat in New Zealand where they lost the ODI Series by 1-0.

The selection panel surprisingly have called back Shardul Thakur in the setup after being ineffective against New Zealand & Bangladesh. it looks as if the selection panel is considering Shardul Thakur as a handy finisher at the back end of the innings.
