Gill took the attack to the new-ball bowlers after New Zealand won the toss and chose to bat, blazing over 40 in just 8 overs in a 50-plus opening stand with skipper Rohit Sharma.

Shubman Gill surpassed Virat Kohli’s Indian record for the most runs scored in a three-match bilateral ODI series. To surpass Virat Kohli’s 283-run total in a 3-match bilateral series, Gill needs 36 runs.
Gill started off with an aggressive fifty, reaching that mark in just 33 balls as he passed 300 runs in his last three ODI innings. Only during the New Year’s series against Sri Lanka had Kohli accomplished the record, scoring two hundred in three games (113, 4, and 166).
