In the first T20I of the three-match series versus New Zealand on Friday, Team India was defeated by 21 runs.
In the 177-run chase, the team was limited to 155/9 because of a top-order collapse that saw Ishan Kishan (4), Rahul Tripathi (0), and Shubman Gill (7) go in rapid succession.
Washington Sundar (50) and Suryakumar Yadav (47), despite their powerful performances, could not lead the hosts to victory.

Suryakumar Yadav Goes Past MS Dhoni In List Of Highest Of T20I Runs Scored
Even though India lost the game, Suryakumar’s 34-ball 47 in the first T20I propelled him well up the list of run scorers.
The Indian batsman, who is presently ranked first in the world in T20 Internationals, overtook previous Indian stars Suresh Raina and Mahendra Singh Dhoni to move up to fifth place in terms of runs scored.
Suryakumar now holds three century and 13 half-centuries in the format, totaling 1,625 runs in 44 innings with an astounding strike rate of 178.76. While Raina concluded his T20I career with 1,605 runs in 78 games and Dhoni with 1,617 runs in 98 matches, both players had impressive totals.

Virat Kohli leads the pack with 4,008 runs, followed closely by Rohit Sharma with 3,853 runs. KL Rahul is in third place with 2,265 runs, while Shikhar Dhawan and Suryakumar Yadav round out the top five with 1,759 and 1,625 runs respectively.
Earlier, when Suryakumar and Hardik Pandya (21) had a little partnership going, there had been some optimism for a successful chase. However, all dreams were destroyed when both players left during the first T20I in rapid succession.
“Till me and Surya were batting, we thought we would pull it off. In hindsight, we ended up giving 25 runs more than the par,” Pandya had said in the post-match presentation.
Washington Sundar excelled for India, taking two wickets for 22 runs and scoring 50 runs in only 28 balls.
“The way Washington bowled, batted and fielded, it was more like Washington against New Zealand than India against New Zealand. If he and Axar can continue the way they are, it will help the Indian cricket a lot,” Pandya further said.
