KS Bharat is an emerging wicketkeeper in Indian cricket. After being part of many series, KS Bharat finally made his international debut in 2023.
KS Bharat is a wicket-keeper batsman. He is a right-handed batsman who plays in the middle-order. The wicketkeeper made his international debut after Rishabh Pant was sidelined due to injury in Tests.
KS Bharat has only played for Team India in a few Tests. Due to his brilliant skills behind the wickets, he is considered a powerful wicketkeeper option in the longest format. However, he is yet to impress with the bat.
Early Life and Career
KS Bharat was born in Visakhapatnam City on October 3, 1993. His father, Kona Srinivas Rao worked in a Naval dockyard while his mother Manga Devi was a homemaker. He grew up in Visakhapatnam with his brother Manoghna Lokesh.
Bharat trained under his childhood coach J Krishna Rao. He became a part of the Andhra Domestic team in 2012. In the Ranji Trophy 2015, he became the first-ever wicketkeeper batsman to smack a triple century in the tournament.
He got a big break after the achievement, as Delhi Capitals bought him in IPL 2015. However, he was out of the tournament for the next few seasons.
International Career
Interestingly, KS Bharat was named in the national squad for many years but had to wait for his international debut. From 2021 to 2023, he was part of the India squad in many crucial series. However, he didn't get a chance to make his international debut but played as a concussion substitute in one match.
KS Bharat finally made his debut in February 2023 during an Australian tour of India. Due to Rishabh Pant's absence, Team India was left with no choice but Bharat. Later, he was also part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023 final.
Bharat has only played 7 Test matches for India. He has done a brilliant job behind the stumps but failed with the bat. In 7 Tests, he has a batting average in 20s with no centuries or half-centuries. Notably, due to Bharat's continuous struggles with the bat, Dhruv Jurel was picked as his replacement in Tests.
IPL Career
KS Bharat entered the Indian Premier League in the 2015 season when Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils) bought him in the auction. However, he was snubbed from the squad after just one season without playing a game.
In IPl 2021, Royal Challengers Bangalore grabbed him into their squad. Bharat also made his IPL debut in the season and gave a wonderful performance. Later, the franchise released him from the squad in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
KS Bharat has been part of three different franchises for the last three seasons. He played for Delhi Capitals in 2022, Gujarat Titans in 2023, and Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024. However, he awaits regular opportunities. So far, he has only played 10 IPL games.
