'The Iceman'- the nickname given to Rahul Tewatia truly justifies his name as he is known for his expertise as a finisher. Despite being an uncapped player, Rahul Tewatia has earned a lot of popularity in the Indian Premier League.
Rahul Tewatia is a left-handed batsman who plays for Gujarat Titans in IPL. He bats in the lower order and is known for his role as a finisher. He also bowls right-arm leg spin, however, he has refrained from bowling for the last few years.
Tewatia first gained popularity in the IPL 2020 season, when he smacked five sixes in an over for Rajasthan Royals to drive the team to a 200-plus total. Later in IPL 2022, he shattered two consecutive sixes on the final two balls to drive Gujarat Titans to victory.
Early Life and Career
Rahul Tewatia was born on May 20, 1993, in Faridabad City in Haryana. His father Krishnapal Tewatia was a lawyer while his mother Prema Tewatia was a homemaker. He tied the knot with Ridhi Pannu in 2021.
Interestingly, Tewatia's grandfather was a wrestler and wanted him to pursue a career in wrestling. However, Tewatia was more interested in cricket since his childhood.
In 2013, the all-rounder got his first break when he was picked by the Haryana team in the domestic circuit. With his consistent shows in domestic, he grabbed the limelight of
Rajasthan Royals franchise picked him in the IPL 2014 edition.
He was part of a few IPL teams from 2014 to 2019, however, he didn’t get enough opportunities to showcase his might. However, he got out of the limelight with his expertise to finish games later. Tewatia was picked in the national squad during the England T20I series in February 2021 but did not get a chance to make his debut.
IPL Career
Rahul Tewatia was first picked by Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2014. He was part of the side till the 2018 season. He also played for Punjab Kings in 2017 and Delhi Capitals from 2018-19. However, he only played a handful of games during these editions.
In IPL 2020, he returned to Rajasthan Royals and the franchise played him in all 14 games. He impressed with his hard-hitting ability and stormed five consecutive sixes to drive RR to victory.
Later, during the IPL 2022 mega auction, Gujarat Titans grabbed him into their squad. As a finisher, Tewatia played a major role in GT's success in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. As a result, the franchise has retained him.
