Sameer Rizvi can be termed as one of the emerging cricketers in Indian cricket. However, it is quite early to say that as he has recently gained fame in IPL and is yet to capture big achievements.
Sameer Rizvi is a right-handed batsman who plays in the lower order. He can also bowl right-arm off-spin. He became a popular name in IPL after Chennai Super Kings shelled out Rs. 8.40 crore to pick him up during the IPL 2024 auction.
Early Life and Career
Sameer Rizvi was born on December 6, 2003, in Meerut City Uttar Pradesh. His father Haseen Rizvi was a property dealer. He grew up with his siblings in Meerut.
Sameer Rizvi started his cricket career under his childhood coach and uncle Tankeeb Akhtar in Meerut. In 2020, he made his first-class debut for Uttar Pradesh domestic team when he was just 16 years old.
Later, he continued to represent Uttar Pradesh in the domestic circuit. He made headlines with his performances in the UP T20 League, which fostered his IPL career later.
In the IPL 2024 auction, Chennai Super Kings bought the right-handed batsman at a hefty price of Rs. 8.40. The purchase made a lot of headlines as he became the most expensive uncapped player in the IPL auction.
He also played a few games in IPL 2024 and showed glimpses of his hard-hitting batting style. Sameer Rizvi has not achieved any big milestones in the national team or IPL. However, considering he is just in his 20s, he has a lot of time to cement his place in the Indian team.
