'Lord' is the word that comes to mind when Indian fans think about Shardul Thakur. The Indian cricketer shares a rare profile of a medium-pace all-rounder, thus making him a premium player to look upon.
Shardul Thakur is a right-arm medium pacer. However, he is also a powerful tailender batsman due to which, he is often considered an all-rounder. Shardul Thakur made his international debut in 2017 and has been in and out of the team since then.
Notably, the right-arm pacer was also part of the Indian team that won the historic Gabba Test in January 2021 in Australia. He also picked a 5-wicket haul in the series and played a dominant role as a bowler. Since then, he has had more opportunities in the national side.
Early Life and Career
Shardul Thakur was born in Palghar City in Maharashtra on October 16, 1991. His father Narendra Thakur was a farmer while his mother Hansa Thakur was a homemaker. Thakur was brought up with his sister Sakshi Thakur and brother Abhishek Thakur.
Thakur underwent cricket coaching under his childhood coach Dinesh Lad. He got a big break when Mumbai picked him in the 2012 Ranji Trophy. In the 2015-16 season, he grabbed an 8-wicket haul against Saurashtra in the final to lead Mumbai to the Ranji title.

Shardul Thakur made his international debut in August 2017, during an ODI series against Sri Lanka. Later, he also made his T20I and Test debut next year. Earlier, he was selected West Indies tour in 2016 but did not play any games.
Shardul Thakur has played for India in all three formats. He has played a handful of Tests. But has played about 45 ODIs and 25 games in the shortest format. He has been impressive with both bat and ball.
Thakur was part of the Indian team that finished as runners-up in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 and ICC World Test Championship Final 2023. He won the Asia Cup in the 2018 and 2023 editions with the Indian team.
