Vivacious opener! These words really describe Virender Sehwag's career in international cricket. He was one of the deadliest openers for India who could scare the bowlers inside the field. Virender Sehwag is the only Indian player to smack three triple centuries in Tests. He also slammed a double century in ODIs.
Sehwag was a right-handed batsman who played as an opener for India. He was also a right-arm off-break bowler and bowled many overs as an occasional spinner for India. He played a lot of games with master blaster Sachin Tendulkar as an Indian opener. He represented Team India from 1999 to 2013.
Personal Life
Virender Sehwag was born on October 20, 1978 in Najafgarh area of New Delhi to Krishan Sehwag and Krishna Sehwag. He has three siblings- brother Vinod and sisters Anju and Manju. He married Aarti Ahlawat in April 2004. The couple has two sons- Aryavir and Vedant.
Early Career and Domestic Career
Sehwag was part of the domestic team in Delhi from 1997 to 2014. He also played for Haryana in 2015. He started coaching under his childhood coach Amar Nath Sharma and was an attacking batsman since his childhood.
International Career
Virender Sehwag made his international debut in 1999 and played for Team India till 2013. He played his first Test in November 2001 and his last match in March 2013. He played a total of 104 games and scored 8586 runs at an average of 89+.
He made his ODI debut in April 1999 and last game in 2013. During the tenure, he played a total of 251 matches and scored 8273 runs at an average of 35+. Sehwag only featured in 19 T20I games for India.
With his spin bowling, Sehwag picked a total of 40 wickets in Tests and 96 in ODIs.
Franchise Career
Virender Sehwag was a big player in the Indian Premier League. The right-handed batsman played a total of 104 IPL games. He was a member of Delhi Daredevils from the first season in 2008 to IPL 2013. Later, he played for Kings XI Punjab in 2014-15.
