Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan has delivered an update on his teammate Naseem Shah’s injury. The right-arm pacer missed the game between Islamabad and Karachi Kings on Thursday (March 7) in the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2024 (PSL 2024).

He had suffered an injury in the previous game against Lahore Qalandars on Wednesday. Naseem Shah sustained a calf bruise after being hit by a throw from Qalandars’ skipper Shaheen Afridi. The incident took place on the final ball of the 14th over when Naseem Shah was completing a single. A throw from Afridi hit him on his unprotected back calf.

He went down immediately before Shaheen checked in on him. Fortunately, Naseem Shah did not have to retire hurt as he continued batting and scored 27 runs. However, he missed the game against Karachi Kings, leaving many worried.

Shadab Khan’s update on Naseem Shah:

Shadab Khan was asked about Naseem Shah at the toss. In reply, the Islamabad captain said that his teammate was rested just as a precautionary measure. At the same time, Shadab Khan also did not mention any timeline for his return. Shadab talked about the pacer after the game as well, saying:

“It was a tough decision but regardless of the results, we had decided to rest our main pacers (Naseem and Raees) as we had back-to-back matches. (On Faheem Ashraf) He is one of our main players. We know his caliber. He has a great record in Pindi and we kept backing him.:

As far as the game is concerned, Naseem Shah’s absence did not cost Islamabad much as they went on to beat Karachi Kings by five wickets. Asked to bat first, Karachi scored 150 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs with Kieron Pollard’s 39 being the top score.

Tymal Mills and Faheem Ashraf picked up three and two wickets respectively for Islamabad. With the bat, Islamabad chased down the total inside 19 overs by losing five wickets. Shadab top-scored for his side with 34 while Agha Salman also played a crucial knock of 33 runs. The win was Islamabad’s fourth in nine games, taking them to the second spot in the points table.
