The Karachi Kings have faced a double blow as they prepare for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024. Two key overseas players, Tabraiz Shamsi and Jamie Overton, will be unavailable, significantly affecting the franchise’s strategy for the tournament.
The upcoming season of the league will kick off with a match between defending champions Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United in Lahore. Karachi team’s campaign commences when they take on the Multan Sultans at the Multan Cricket Stadium on February 18.
Tabraiz Shamsi To Miss Latter Stages Of PSL 2024 – Reports
Tabraiz Shamsi is scheduled to sit out the latter half of the PSL due to commitments in South Africa’s domestic T20 competition, starting on March 8th. The South African wrist-spinner will participate in Karachi Kings’ first six matches of the ninth edition of the PSL.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has issued No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to players for a limited period. Shamsi, a crucial member of the Proteas white-ball teams, must leave the PSL by March 6 to compete in the domestic T20 tournament.
South Africa’s policy of prioritizing centrally contracted players for domestic leagues will affect Rassie van der Dussen’s stint with Lahore Qalandars. Like Shamsi, Van der Dussen must return home by March 6, missing a significant portion of the season’s latter stages.
Jamie Overton Ruled Out Of PSL 2024
Jamie Overton has been withdrawn from the entire PSL season. The English all-rounder sustained a minor shoulder injury during the ILT20, prompting his withdrawal from the PSL 2024. He prioritized his fitness for the County Championship season, starting on April 5.
Surrey withdrew Jamie Overton’s NOC from the PSL, prioritizing his fitness for the County Championship. Overton’s injury may affect his chances of making England’s squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. He delivered his standout performances in the Hundred last summer.
The latest withdrawals have further depleted the roster of overseas players for this year’s PSL, posing challenges for teams. Last month, Lahore Qalandars’ Rashid Khan opted out to recuperate from back surgery. Similarly, Reece Topley’s NOC was revoked by England due to concerns over a minor injury sustained during the SA20.
