Pakistan cricket seems to have discovered its version of Ravichandran Ashwin in Usman Tariq. The off-break bowler caught a lot of attention with his bowling as well as bowling style during the game between Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL 2024).

The video of Usman Tariq dismissing Tim Seifert has gone viral on social media because of his bowling action. The right-arm spinner briefly paused during his action before delivering the ball just like Ravichandran Ashwin does on certain occasions.

He trapped Seifert in front of the stumps before going on to take the crucial wicket of James Vince as well in the same over to put Quetta Gladiators on top. The mystery spinner ended the match with impressive figures of 2 for 16 in his four overs.

Later, former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq explained what makes Usman Tariq different than other spinners. The Pakistan great said that playing the spinner is difficult because of his variations.

“He (Taqir) has a carrom ball and on top of that, he is accurate. The spin is so subtle that it is just enough to beat the bat. For the right-handers, he is difficult to face,” said Misbah.

“If you play him like an off-spinner where the ball comes back in which we have tried and seen but all the batters make the same mistake when we think he is delivering the carrom ball. We try to play him in-line we plant our foot to play but him that subtle turn will get to you LBW or bowled.

“When you are facing your first or second ball as a batter in your innings even if you pick it you will make a mistake some way or the other,” he added.

Talking about the game, Quetta Gladiators beat Karachi Kings by five wickets to register their fourth win in five games. Asked to bat first, the Kings scored 165/8 in 20 overs. Vince (37) top-scored for the Karachi-based outfit. For the Gladiators, Abrar Ahmed picked up 3 wickets while Usman Tariq and Akeal Hosein took two each.

With the bat, the Gladiators chased down the total on the very last ball of the match when Sherfane Rutherford hit a four with his team needing one run.
