India National Cricket Team have been dealt with yet another major blow as the 30-year-old right-arm pacer Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the ongoing three-match ODI series against South Africa National Cricket Team.

India National Cricket Team led by Shikhar Dhawan lost the first ODI of the three-match ODI series against Temba Bavuma’s South Africa National Cricket Team by 9 runs in Lucknow. The second ODI of the series will be played in Ranchi on October 9, 2022, and the final ODI will be held in New Delhi on October 11, 2022.

On Saturday, October 8, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a statement in which it was asserted that Chahar will miss the remainder of the ODI series against South Africa and young spin bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar will replace him in the squad.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee named Washington Sundar as replacement for Deepak Chahar for the remainder of the ODI series against South Africa,” BCCI stated.

Deepak Chahar, who is a part of India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad as a standby player, surprisingly didn’t feature in the first ODI against South Africa and Shardul Thakur was included in the playing XI.

The decision of Indian management not to include a World Cup standby player in the playing XI came as a surprise to many. However, now the BCCI has revealed the real reason behind Chahar’s non-inclusion in the playing XI.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stated that Chahar “had stiffness in his back“ after the final T20I against South Africa. It was further stated that the right-arm pacer will be heading back to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and will be monitored by the Medical Team there.

“Mr. Chahar had a stiffness in his back after the third and final T20I against South Africa in Indore and did not feature in India’s Playing XI in the first ODI in Lucknow.

“He will now head back to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and will be monitored by the Medical Team there,” BCCI stated.
