Star India batter KL Rahul, who got ruled out of the entire five-match T20I series against South Africa after suffering a groin injury, has expressed disappointment at not being able to lead India in the series.
On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced that Rahul, who was set to lead India in Rohit Sharma’s absence, will miss the entire South Africa series after suffering a severe injury and his deputy Rishabh Pant will step up and take the charge.

Young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, who is the skipper of Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL, will be making his T20I captaincy debut in the series against South Africa and Hardik Pandya, who recently led Gujarat Titans to the Indian Premier League 2022 triumph, will be the vice-captain.
“Team India Captain KL Rahul has been ruled out of the T20I series against South Africa owing to a right groin injury,” BCCI tweeted.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant as Captain and Hardik Pandya as vice-captain for the home series against South Africa,” BCCI further wrote.

Rahul took to Twitter to express his disappointment at getting ruled out of the series. He also asserted that he will be supporting Rishabh Pant and Co. from the sidelines.
“Hard to accept but I begin another challenge today. Gutted not to be leading the side for the first time at home, but the boys have all my support from the sidelines. Heartfelt thanks to all for your support. Wishing Rishabh and the boys all the luck for the series. See you soon,” Star India batter KL Rahul tweeted.

The five-match T20I series between India and South Africa will begin in Delhi on Thursday, followed by matches in Cuttack (June 12), Visakhapatnam (June 14), Rajkot (June 17) and Bengaluru (June 19).
