Zaheer Khan mentioned how South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen was given a lifeline in the T20I series opener against India on Thursday. He indicated that, because fortune was already in his favour, the batsman sought to take more risks against the bowlers after that.
When the batsman was at 29 off 31 deliveries, Shreyas Iyer lost Van van Dussen’s catch while fielding deep mid-wicket. The swashbuckler put the Indian bowling to task and led his team to a shock victory as a result of the drop.
Zaheer Khan told Cricbuzz that the right-hander has adjusted his stance as a result of the wasted opportunity. After failing to get starting early in the innings, he believes the player was able to effectively implement his ideas in the latter part of the innings.
He stated, “Rassie van der Dussen benefited from the lost catch. As a batsman, he might have believed that luck was on his side, that he could take the better opportunity, yet everything would turn out precisely the way he intended it to.”
‘David Miller was the man behind the South African game’: Zaheer Khan
Zaheer Khan emphasized how David Miller set the stage for the run chase with his destructive 64*. He believed that the southpaw’s batsman types of attacks shifted the dynamism to his side.
“David Miller was fantastic. He created the match for South Africa. Rassie van der Dussen was attempting to take longer than necessary to prepare for his inning. But David Miller managed to keep South Africa in the chase.”
“He put the Indian bowlers under pressure and managed to keep the tempo up. Rassie van der Dussen eventually caught up with and overtaken Miller near the end. However, Miller’s influence was felt during the 11th, 12th, and 13th innings, and he set the tone.”
On Sunday, June 12, India and South Africa will play the second T20I of their five-match series. The game is set to take place at Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium.
