Sanju Samson’s snub for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 has left World Cricket confused. The right-handed batter hasn’t been given a long rope similar to Rishabh Pant. The 27-year-old Cricketer would be still hopeful of making the cut for ICC tournaments in the near future as he somewhat has age on his side.

The batter should try to get in the team as a batter as the selection panel looks in no mood to change the wicketkeeper. Recently BCCI made him the skipper for India A squad against New Zealand. This means that the batter is still in the plans of the selection panel. There’s no doubt about his hitting prowess but the batter is somewhat inconsistent which may be the reason for the omission.

Sreesanth on Sanju Samson

World Cup Winner S Sreesanth was seen having an interaction with Hindustan Times and was asked about Sanju Samson. “He has to be consistent. See, everyone is talking about the IPL. I’m from Kerala, I’m somebody who has always supported him. I’ve seen him play from U14. He has played under me. In fact, I was the one who gave him the cap on his Ranji Trophy debut. But the way I see him… it’s a request to him – he has to start performing in first-class matches.”  Sreesanth said.

“Yes, IPL is very important. IPL will give him fame, popularity, and riches, everything across the globe. But I have this strong feeling – for any cricketer for that matter – that they need to start doing extremely well for the state side, especially in first-class cricket. Sanju has to come out and perform in first-class matches. Not just score a hundred, score 200s. Come and make the Kerala team win the Ranji Trophy! Make Kerala team win the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Then, the Kerala cricketers will come out on top.” he added

“Is Sanju the only cricketer in Kerala? No, there are so many other cricketers in the state. It’s just a matter of time. Sanju is playing in the IPL, he should be so grateful. The Malayali people across the globe are supporting him, but then, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan… they can all keep. I’m telling you, the keeper-batsmen combination is very high, it’s not just Sanju.” said the former speedster.

“I’ve told him also, that he has to come back to first-class cricket and make Kerala win. He is the captain also, I genuinely hope he scores hundreds, not just one hundred in three years. He should come into the scene like how Rishabh Pant or Ishan Kishan came. I’m very confident Sanju has got the talent and the ability. It’s just a matter of consistency.” concluded Sreesanth.

Ishan Kishan is in line with the Indian Cricket Team

Sanju Samson needs to be a stand-out player as scoring 20 odd runs won’t help. The youngster Ishan Kishan is also banging on the door of the Indian Cricket Team. The left-handed batter had made the cut for ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in place of Sanju Samson. The left-handed batter has some serious hitting prowess which makes him an invaluable asset for the team.

The right-handed batter has to make sure that he displays scintillating performances in the next 2-3 years. As stated by Sreesanth, Sanju needs to have runs on board in the domestic setup. We all have seen that IPL is a stepping stone to getting into the National Team but before that the player needs to amass a lot of runs.
