Shreyas Iyer, an Indian batsman, reached his second ODI century as he maintained his impressive ODI run. Iyer led India to a 7-wicket victory and added his name to an elite list after smashing an unbeaten 113 off 111 balls.
Iyer, may not have made the T20 World Cup roster due to an underwhelming performance in the shortest format, but the batsman continued his outstanding run in the One-Dayers.
Iyer followed up his quickfire half-century in the opening ODI in Lucknow, when he led India to a series-tying victory over South Africa, with his second ODI century on Sunday in Ranchi.
Iyer joined prominent Indian batsman Virat Kohli on a special list after his century. At ODIs played in Ranchi, Iyer became just the second Indian hitter, after Kohli, to reach the triple digits in runs scored.
Kohli has two victories under his belt in the capital of Jharkhand: 123 against Australia in 2019 and 139* against Sri Lanka in 2014. Iyer, who struck 113*, joined Usman Khawaja and Angelo Mathews, both of whom had already reached the century mark at the venue, as the fourth batter overall.
Shreyas Iyer Continues His Outstanding Run In ODIs:
Iyer, who possesses impressive ODI statistics, appears to have the greatest comfort in this format of the three. When the team was in danger and had lost four wickets, Iyer’s knock in Lucknow demonstrated his aggressive style of play, but Ranchi saw a batsman who was in control of his innings.
Iyer began his innings in the same way, with a couple of boundaries off the likes of Wayne Parnell and Kagiso Rabada, after losing both Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill during the powerplay.
Iyer made sure that boundaries continued to be consistently imposed notwithstanding Ishan Kishan’s early slowness. Iyer seized the lead and moved the innings along when Kishan went off the rails.
After Kishan was dismissed 7 runs short of reaching his century, Iyer made sure that India won the match and remained unbeaten while Sanju Samson was still alive after scoring 30 off 36.
