Chasing the target, Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad all failed to make any good contributions with the bat.

Shreyas Iyer and Shardul Thakur batted brilliantly while wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson played an absolutely stunning knock. Iyer smashed 50 runs, Thakur scored 33 runs and the star wicketkeeper-batter Samson smashed a terrific 86* runs off 63 balls, including 9 fours and 3 sixes. However, Samson didn’t get much support from the tailenders and India faced a defeat in the match.

During the post-match presentation ceremony, Shikhar Dhawan said that he is proud of the way players played in the match. He especially showered praise on Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson and Shardul Thakur for their brilliant batting performances in the match. He said:

“Quite proud of the way the boys played the game, we didn’t get a good start, but the way Shreyas, Samson and Shardul batted was excellent.”

Shikhar Dhawan admitted that the bowlers leaked too many runs and the fielding of the side was also poor. He said:

“We gave away too many runs on a wicket that swung and spun, the fielding wasn’t great, but this was a good learning experience for us.”
