IND vs SA: Umran Malik Deserves To Play; He Is One Of The Most Exciting Prospects I Have Seen In Last 10 Years – Dilip Vengsarkar

Former India National Cricket Team captain and 1983 World Cup winner, Dilip Vengsarkar, believes that the young Jammu and Kashmir express pacer Umran Malik is ready to play international cricket and he deserves to play for India in the home T20I series against South Africa.

Umran Malik has been one of the most talked-about names in Indian cricket for quite some time now. The right-arm express pacer, who can clock the deliveries consistently at over 150kmph, won the Emerging Player of the Season award in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

In the Indian Premier League 2022, Umran Malik picked up 22 wickets in 14 games for SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) and he finished as the 4th highest wicket-taker in the cash-rich league.

After his brilliant performance in the Indian Premier League 2022, Umran got his India call-up for the five-match home T20I series against South Africa. However, he didn’t get the opportunity to play in the first game of the series, where India faced a defeat.

Former India captain Vengsarkar, while talking about Umran, said that the pacer should get the opportunity to play in the South Africa T20Is at home as this is the right series to test a talent like him.

“Everybody has a different outlook on the game. But I feel he deserves to play after showing that kind of speed and accuracy in the IPL. Also, when you are playing (international cricket) at home, that’s the right time to test somebody like him,” Vengsarkar was quoted as saying by Khaleej Times.

Former India player further labelled Umran as “one of the most exciting prospects” he has seen in the last 10 years.

“He is one of the most exciting prospects I have seen in the last 10 years. I hope he does well because he looks very fit, and he has that aggression of a fast bowler. He has got pace and accuracy. I think he should be able to play for India for a long time,” concluded the former right-handed batter.
