The 1st ODI of India vs South Africa was rain affected due to which the match was 40 overs contest. India had the game under control till the half stage when the bowlers made the most of the overcast conditions. It looked as if India would bundle out South Africa under 170 odd runs.
South African batters had other ideas as they posted a formidable target of 250 runs for the hosts. It was a team performance from Proteas where their batters made significant contributions. David Miller & Heinrich Klaasen were involved in 139 runs partnership. Miller scored 75 runs in 63 balls in which he struck 6 fours and 2 sixes and Klaasen scored 74 runs in 65 balls where he smashed 5 fours and 3 sixes.
Wayne Parnell Gets Rid off Dangerous Shikhar Dhawan
Indian Cricket Team got off to a slow start where the openers were facing tough to score runs. At the end of 5th over India’s score was 8-1 and all hopes were on Skipper Shikhar Dhawan. Wayne Parnell was bowling the 6th over and made Shikhar Dhawan drag one onto the stumps and took a massive wicket. This dismissal can be the turning point of the match as Shikhar is someone who can bat long.
Tough Run Chase for India
The Indian Cricket Team need Shreyas Iyer to play a match winning innings. The right handed batter knows how to construct an innings. He will be aware of the fact that he needs to perform consistently to break into ODI Side. It would be interesting to see how he fares in this high scoring match where pitch is by no means easy.
The likes of Ishan Kishan has a golden opportunity to make this innings count. The left handed batter has been somewhat missing from the Indian Setup after last year’s T20 World Cup edition. If he can play a knock of around 80 runs or even more than that then he can bang the door of Indian Cricket Team.
