Indian Cricket Team displayed a complete performance in the 2nd ODI against South Africa. The Men in Blue won the match by 7 wickets with more than 4 overs remaining. South Africa’s stand-in skipper Keshav Maharaj would be unhappy as the bowlers were unable to pick wickets at regular intervals.

Skipper Shikhar Dhawan would be proud of his team as they didn’t panic even after losing openers in the power-play overs. The way Shreyas Iyer & Ishan Kishan batted was a treat to watch.  Ishan Kishan would be unhappy after getting out on 93 runs; whereas Shreyas has made a strong case for himself in ODIs by smashing a terrific century.

South Africa’s bowlers weren’t able to build pressure on batters. Indian batters surprisingly chose to be aggressive in the middle overs which changed the game. South Africa would be hoping that Temba Bavuma comes back into the playing 11 for the decider.

South Africa would feel that a score of around 320 runs would have been more competitive on a flat deck. The team needs to quickly regroup and focus on the next ODI which is on 11th October. The Proteas would be well aware of the fact that their direct qualification for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is very less.

During the post-match presentation, Keshav Maharaj was asked about his decision to bat first.  “We didn’t expect dew to be such a factor here, that’s why we opted to bat.”

He added that Ishan Kishan & Shreyas Iyer batted well

“We tried what we could, Shreyas and Kishan played very well. We thought the track will get slower and lower as the game progressed. But it got easier to bat after the 30th over due to the soft ball and dew that came on.”
