Ishan Kishan Has Increased His Chances As 3rd Opener For T20 World Cup 2022 After IND vs SA Series: Wasim Jaffer

Former Indian player Wasim Jaffer feels that Ishan Kishan has increased his chances to become India’s 3rd opener in the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2022 after his good show in the recent IND vs SA series. Waffer also said that Ishan Kishan has also pipped Ruturaj Gaikwad for the spot.
Ishan Kishan gave a marvellous performance in IND vs SA T20I series. The left-handed batsman slammed 206 runs in 5 innings at an average of 41.20, smacking 2 half-centuries in the process. He finished as the top run-getter in the series, showcasing some hard-hitting batting in the powerplay overs.

While speaking to ESPNCricinfo, former India opener Wasim Jaffer said that he feels Ishan Kishan has pipped Ruturaj Gaikwad for the spot of 3rd opening for the T20 World Cup 2022. However, Jaffer also said that Gaikwad has the talent and potential to get a nod in the squad for the ICC tournament.
“I think Ishan Kishan, based on this series, has pipped Ruturaj Gaikwad for the spot of the third opener for the T20 World Cup. But since KL Rahul is injured, Gaikwad might get the nod for the third opener. He definitely has the talent and the potential and has shown it in some games. He does lack consistency but doesn’t lack talent and potential,” Wasim Jaffer said.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, who opened the innings with Ishan Kishan in all 5 games, slammed 96 runs in 5 innings at an average of 19.20. He slammed a crucial fifty in one of the games. However, he failed to come up with a good show in the opening two games that India lost.
India vs South Africa T20I series ended in a 2-2 tie. The 5th T20I was washed out due to rain. South Africa defeated India in the first two games by 7 wickets and 4 wickets respectively.
Later, the Indian team bounced back by winning the 3rd T20I by 48 runs and the 4th T20I by 82 runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who scalped 6 wickets in the series at an economy rate of 6.07, won the player of the series award.
