India captain Rohit Sharma was not happy with the umpire’s decision to not call a wide and asked for a DRS review as a result. This happened in the second T20I between India and South Africa being played at the Barsapara cricket ground in Guwahati on October 2, 2022. India leads the series 1-0 and has the chance to pocket the series with a win in this match.

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to field first this time. The Proteas made one change as pacer Lungi Ngidi replaced spinner Tabraiz Shamsi in the XI, while India was unchanged.

This was a special match for India captain Rohit Sharma, who was playing his 400th T20 match, becoming the first Indian to reach this milestone. Out of his 400 T20 matches, this was his 141st T20I match for India and he has also played 191 matches for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Rohit Sharma Mockingly Calls For DRS Review After Umpires Fails To Signal A Wide

Indian openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul took the attack to South African bowlers from the start and hammered the pacers, especially to all parts of Guwahati’s Barsapara cricket ground. Rohit Sharma hit the Proteas bowlers brutally, making 43 in 37 balls with 7 fours and 1 six to his name before his dismissal.

KL Rahul contributed 57 in 28 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes to his name as the duo added 96 runs in the first 10 overs. South Africa bowler Keshav Maharaj picked 2/23 in his 4 overs.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma was furious as the umpire for a mistake. On the fourth delivery of the second over, Wayne Parnell bowled down the leg side to Rohit and even though there was no contact from either bat or pad, the umpire didn’t call wide.

Rohit, in pure anger, gazed at the umpire and raised his arms himself, seemingly urging the umpire to call it a wide delivery. He then let out a scream in frustration and mockingly signaled for a DRS review for the wide.
