Rohit Sharma Was Out Absolute Clear Choice: Chetan Sharma
“Rohit Sharma is the number 1 cricketer of our country. Rohit is absolutely fit. When a big player like him becomes a captain, the grooming part becomes easy.”
The Chief selector further said that they were very clear about the selection of Rohit and there was no further discussion on other names.
“There was no discussion on other names. Rohit was our absolute clear choice for the test captain,” the chief selector added saying.
The Test squad announced for the series bears a fresh look with the veterans being dropped from the series. The likes of Cheteahwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Wriddhiman Saha and Ishant Sharma are not a part of the series.
“We have deliberated a lot on them. We decided not to consider them for the SL series. We asked them to play Ranji. For these two matches, we decided to give chance to others.
“They can still make a comeback. Ajinkya got a hundred in the Ranji match. It is a bad phase. It is very important for the selectors to manage them” said Chetan Sharma.
The series starts from February 24 with the three-match T20I series. Mohali and Bangalore will host the two Test matches.
