After playing the upcoming three T20 internationals against West Indies, India will host Sri Lanka for two Tests and three T20 internationals. The series will begin with three T20 internationals, followed by two Tests. India last played a Test series in South Africa.

Despite winning the first Test, they went on to lose the series by a 2-1 margin. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, last played a home Test series against West Indies, which they won by 2-0.

India and Sri Lanka have played 44 Tests against each other in the history of Test Cricket. India have been dominating, having beaten Sri Lanka on 20 occasions. On the other hand, Sri Lanka have managed to beat India 7 times.

Indian off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin is the only active cricketer present in the list. Ashwin is currently one of the best spinners in the world, as far as Test Cricket is concerned. He is a lethal force, especially in home conditions. The Indian spinner, more often than not, manages to claim the most wickets every time India play a Test series at home.

The 35-year old spinner picked the most wickets in Test Cricket in the year 2021. In just 9 Tests, he managed to claim 51 wickets at an average of 16.64. He has a pretty good record against Sri Lanka as well, having managed to claim 50 wickets in just 9 Tests at an average of 23.58.

Veteran Indian off-spinner, Harbhajan Singh finds himself at the number two position in the list. There is no denying that Harbhajan Singh is one of the greatest spinners India has ever produced.

He was effective both in Asian as well as SENA countries. Harbhajan Singh too had great numbers against Sri Lanka in Test Cricket. In his Test Cricket career, he played 16 Tests against Sri Lanka and managed to claim 53 wickets at an average of 38.77.

  1. Anil Kumble: 74 wickets in 18 Tests

India’s greatest spinner of all time, Anil Kumble is at number one position in the list. The former Indian spinner doesn’t need an introduction. His numbers speak for itself. He was a phenomenon in World Cricket.

He played 18 Tests against Sri Lanka between 1993 and 2008 and managed to claim 74 wickets at 31.20. Kumble picked 4 five-wicket hauls and 2 ten-wicket hauls against Sri Lanka in Test Cricket. He finished his Test Cricket career with 619 wickets in 132 Tests at an average of 29.65.
