Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik is against the practice of split captaincy in India and has said that Rohit Sharma is the ideal candidate to lead India across formats at this time. Captaincy debate in Indian cricket has been a much-discussed topic in Indian cricket and with Kohli and Rohit playing in the same era and at the same time, the discussion has gained weight.
Rohit Sharma is currently leading India against Sri Lanka in Mohali, This is his first Test as India’s Test captain and it coincides with Virat Kohli playing his 100th Test match. India won the toss and opted to bat first on day 1.
Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik at the ICC Review spoke about the pros and cons of split captaincy in Indian cricket.

“A cricketing country like India needs one captain. It is very easy to deal with one captain for all three formats. I remember MS Dhoni saying that split captaincy doesn’t work in India that well.
“We haven’t had that over a period of time, so we wouldn’t know. But at this point in time when I do see it, I think he (Rohit) is the man. Every time he touched something, it’s turned to gold. All the series he has been a part of, he has won convincingly,” Karthik said on the ICC Review.
Further, Karthik said that he was impressed by Rohit Sharma’s captaincy since he took over. India won three T20I series on the trot with Rohit as captain. The side beat, New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka at home and in the process went past 100 T20I wins as well.
Rohit Sharma Has Shown Tactical Nous As Captain: Dinesh Karthik

“He has shown a lot of tactical nous in the games that he has played. Moved the bowlers around really well, giving confidence to the batters and when they’ve won a series, giving opportunities to the young guys,” Karthik said about how Rohit has managed his players and brought the best out of them.
