India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma while talking about Virat Kohli on Friday, ahead of the commencement of the first Test against Sri Lanka at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, which is Kohli’s 100th Test, said it is a special occasion for the team as not many players play 100 Test matches.
Virat Kohli, who is regarded as one of the finest modern-day batters has now become the only 12th Indian cricketer to play 100 Test matches. He is playing his 100th Test game against Dimuth Karunaratne-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh.

Meanwhile, after the toss, India captain Rohit Sharma, who had replaced Kohli as all-format captain, said that the former Indian captain is looking forward to his landmark 100th Test. He said:
“We know it is a special occasion. Not many people go on to play 100 Tests, and Virat has been looking forward to this game.”

India have won the toss and elected to bat first in the first Test of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka and India have fielded 3 spinners and two-seamers.
Rohit Sharma, who is captaining the Indian Test team for the very first time in his career said it is an honour for him to lead India in the purest format of the game.
“We are going to bat first. Similar Indian conditions, so it’s important for us to put runs on the board and take it from there. It is a huge honour to be captaining India and be part of the list. It is something I never dreamt of. It has been quite buzzing.”
