The BCCI selection panel announced Rohit Sharma as India’s next Test skipper as they announced the Test and T20I squads for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. The series starts from February 24 with the T20Is followed by the two Test matches. Mohali and Banglore are the venues for the Test matches.

“Rohit Sharma is the No. 1 cricketer of our country and the most important thing is that he is playing all three formats. The important thing is how we manage Rohit and all the current cricketers are very professional, they know their body, they manage their body.

“With Rohit, there’s absolutely no problem at all. We will definitely talk to Rohit from time to time (with regards to rest and workload), and when we spoke, he’s absolutely okay.

“If a big player like him becomes a captain then automatically – even we’ve spoken about it at the selection committee – grooming captains under Rohit Sharma will be a tremendous thing for us,” Chetan Sharma said.

Meanwhile, former England skipper Michael Vaughan has given his verdict on Rohit Sharma’s elevation as India’s next Test skipper. Taking to Twitter he responded by saying “Great Choice” after the announcement was made.

The three-match T20I series between India and Sri Lanka will be played between February 24-27. Lucknow will host the first T20I with Dharmasala hosting the second and the third T20I. The first Test will be played in Mohali from March 4-8.

Bengaluru will host the second Test between March 12-16 which will be a day-night Test. The two-match Test series will be a part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle.
