Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria pointed out that left-handed opening batter, Ishan Kishan, cannot afford to take the T20I series against Sri Lanka as his position in the side is on the line.
Rishabh Pant has been given a break and Kishan is expected to do the wicket-keeping duties. While it is a well-known fact that Pant continues to be India’s first-choice keeper, all Kishan can do is put his hat in the ring.
“Kishan made batting look very simple during his stay at the crease. The wicket was slow and the ball wasn’t coming onto the bat nicely. In spite of that, Kishan batted outstandingly.”
“He knows the importance of this series as Rishabh Pant is still the number 1 keeper for India. He needs to make the most of his chances. While the West Indies series proved to be underwhelming for him, he has started off brilliantly against Sri Lanka,” Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.
“Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer proved why they are rated so highly in T20 cricket” – Danish Kaneria
Aside from Kishan’s knock, KKR’s costliest buy, Shreyas Iyer, also put on a clinical batting masterclass. He came in after Kishan and Rohit Sharma had set up the platform. Iyer found his timing right from the get-go and ended up scoring 58 off 27 balls to take India to 199/2.
“Both Kishan and Shreyas Iyer fetched lucrative contracts at the IPL auction. With their performance against Sri Lanka, they proved once again why they are rated so highly in T20 cricket,” he mentioned.
Kishan was bought for INR 15.25 crores by Mumbai Indians while Shreyas Iyer went to Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 12.25 crores in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
