Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin lavished praise on the current crop of Indian Test cricketers, claiming that they will be spoken about as a good team a few years down the line.
India has been at the top in Test match cricket for quite a while, only being toppled by New Zealand now and then. Their dominance at home is unmatched and their performances away have also been on the rise.
Far too often in the yesteryears, India was strong at home but unable to produce results while playing in Australia and England. Things have changed since, as the team has won its last two Test series in Australia and leads England by 2-1.
“It’s been a wonderful team. As I look at it now with a little more maturity and a little bit of a twinkle in my eye, I can see the kind of people I brushed shoulders within this team.”
“Maybe 5-10 years down the line, people will talk about this being one of the good teams that India has produced. And I’m so delighted for all my fellow cricketers who went on to do some great things,” Ashwin was quoted as saying in a video posted by the BCCI.
“Some of my teammates are enabling me to enjoy these moments better” – Ravichandran Ashwin
Ashwin’s career trajectory has gone up as the years have gone by, and he is now functioning at his peak. He recently went past Kapil Dev‘s tally of 434 wickets in Test matches and has become the second-highest wicket-taker among Indians.
“At this point of time, where I stand in my career and the kind of cricket I’m playing, I am just looking to get better every single day with utmost joy and happiness on my face, and I am enjoying this phase. Some of my teammates are enabling me to enjoy these moments better,” Ashwin further mentioned.
India defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs in the first test against Sri Lanka in Mohali. They have now moved to Bengaluru where the second Test begins on March 12.
